Not fit to govern
As Congress are discussing cuts in Medicare and Social Security, one can’t help but wonder what the bloody hell is wrong with these people. In a country where poverty levels are reaching third World status, the new cuts will be aimed at the poorest portion of the population yet again; Medicare and SS are not alone, cuts are reported in legal aid to out of work families losing their homes and the prospect of higher taxes is now real. Republicans are against higher taxes, for the rich that is, deficits don’t seem to matter when it comes to the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Their argument is that the wealthiest are “job creators” which is absolutely wrong, numbers show that in the last ten years, the main job creators were small businesses – who are no longer hiring because all the free money from the Federal Reserve when to banks and Wall Street – and the Government. From 1999 to 2009, the grand total job creation by Corporations was minus 150 000 while executive pay doubled, I guess we know where the money went.
As for higher taxes, I would suggest closing all the loopholes that permit most Corporations and the wealthiest to pay little or no taxes before actually raising the common man’s taxes, but then again, the middle class and lower classes are not represented in Congress where lobbies rule and the country’s future is sacrificed at the altar of special interest.
